Overview
The jailer of Philippi was responsible for guarding Paul and Silas after their arrest. When an earthquake shook the prison at midnight, he assumed all prisoners had escaped and prepared to take his own life. Paul's intervention and subsequent witness led to his conversion and that of his entire household, becoming a powerful testimony to God's saving grace.
Key Scriptures
"About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God" (Acts 16:25, ESV). "The jailer called for lights and rushed in, and trembling with fear he fell down before Paul and Silas. Then he brought them out and said, 'Sirs, what must I do to be saved?' And they said, 'Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household'" (Acts 16:29-31, ESV). "He took them the same hour of the night and washed their wounds; and he was baptized at once, he and all his family" (Acts 16:33, ESV).
