Hirah

0 scripture references — Nave's Topical Bible

Overview

Hirah appears in Genesis 38 as Judah's close companion during Judah's time in Adullam. When Judah sought a Canaanite woman, he used Hirah to locate her. Hirah later became instrumental in attempting to retrieve Judah's pledged items from the woman he believed was a prostitute, not realizing it was Tamar, his daughter-in-law.

Key Scriptures

"Judah asked the Adullamite, 'Where is the shrine prostitute who was beside the road at Enaim?' 'There hasn't been any shrine prostitute here,' he said" (Genesis 38:21, NIV).

"Judah said to Hirah the Adullamite, 'Go and get the young woman's pledge back. I don't want to be put to shame'" (Genesis 38:23, NIV).

Application

Consider how our closest friendships can either strengthen or compromise our character—choose companions who encourage godliness rather than enable compromise.
