Heave-Offering

29 scripture references across 3 subtopics — Nave's Topical Bible

Overview

The heave-offering (also called the "contribution" or "offering lifted up") was a sacred portion designated for the Lord and given to the Levitical priests. It was taken from the spoils of war, grain harvests, and sacrificial animals, signifying that all increase came from God's hand and belonged ultimately to Him.

Key Scriptures

"When you eat the bread of the land, you shall offer a heave offering to the Lord. Of the first of your dough you shall give to the Lord a heave offering throughout your generations" (Numbers 15:19-20, NASB).

"From the soldiers who fought, set apart as a contribution to the Lord... And from the men of war's half, take one drawn out of every five hundred of the persons and of the cattle and of the donkeys and of the flocks" (Numbers 31:28-30, NASB).

Application

Christians today can honor God by giving generously from their increase, recognizing that all blessings come from His hand and supporting those who minister His Word.
