Harod

0 scripture references — Nave's Topical Bible

Overview

The spring of Harod (also called the fountain of Harod) located in the valley of Jezreel served as a strategic water source in ancient Israel. This site is most significant as the location where God tested Gideon's warriors, reducing his army from 32,000 to 300 men through a specific drinking method, demonstrating that victory comes through God's strength, not human numbers.

Key Scriptures

"So Gideon took the men down to the water. There the LORD said to him, 'Separate those who lap the water with their tongues as a dog laps from those who kneel down to drink.' Three hundred of the men lapped with their hands to their mouths. All the rest got down on their knees to drink" (Judges 7:5-6, NIV).

"Early in the morning, Jerub-Baal (that is, Gideon) and all his men camped at the spring of Harod" (Judges 7:1, ESV).

Application

Trust that God accomplishes His purposes through faithful obedience rather than relying on human strength or resources.
