Hamutal

0 scripture references — Nave's Topical Bible

Overview

Hamutal was the daughter of Jeremiah (not the prophet) and wife of King Josiah of Judah. She bore two sons who became kings: Jehoahaz and Zedekiah. Her sons ruled during Judah's tumultuous final decades, a period marked by political instability and spiritual decline that preceded the Babylonian exile.

Key Scriptures

"Jehoahaz was twenty-three years old when he began to reign, and he reigned three months in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Hamutal the daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah" (2 Kings 23:31, ESV).

"Zedekiah was twenty-one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Hamutal the daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah" (2 Kings 24:18, ESV).

Application

Consider how family heritage and maternal influence shaped these kings' decisions, reminding us that parents bear significant responsibility in guiding their children toward righteousness and obedience to God's Word.
