Haggith

0 scripture references — Nave's Topical Bible

Overview

Haggith was the mother of Adonijah, David's fourth son, born during his reign in Hebron (2 Samuel 3:4). When King David grew old, Adonijah exalted himself, saying "I will be king," but David had already purposed Solomon as his successor. Adonijah's failed coup demonstrates the danger of presumption against God's chosen leader.

Key Scriptures

"Then Adonijah the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying, 'I will be king.' And he prepared for himself chariots and horsemen, and fifty men to run before him" (1 Kings 1:5, ESV).

"But as for you, go, gather all Israel together to me, and let us make a covenant with the LORD, that he may establish his word that he swore to David your father" (1 Chronicles 15:12, ESV).

Application

Believers should trust God's chosen leadership and not presume to elevate themselves or others against His established purposes.
