24 scripture references across 4 subtopics — Nave's Topical Bible

Overview

Gath was one of the five principal cities of the Philistines, located in southwestern Canaan. David fled to Gath seeking refuge from Saul's pursuit, initially feigning madness to escape detection. Later, David established a base of operations there with his men and their families, demonstrating God's care for His anointed even in enemy territory.

Key Scriptures

"Then David said to Achish, 'If I have found favor in your eyes, let a place be assigned to me in one of the country towns, that I may live there; for why should your servant live in the royal city with you?'" (1 Samuel 27:5, NIV)

"David became very much afraid of Achish king of Gath. So he changed his behavior before them, and pretended to be insane in their hands, and made marks on the doors of the gate" (1 Samuel 21:12-13, ESV)

Application
