Galleries

0 scripture references — Nave's Topical Bible

Overview

Galleries were upper-level chambers or corridors built into the temple structure, mentioned prominently in Ezekiel's vision of the restored temple. These architectural elements served practical purposes including storage, viewing areas for worship, and circulation within sacred spaces. They demonstrate the careful design and order God prescribed for His house.

Key Scriptures

"Then he brought me to the north gate and measured it. It had three alcoves on each side, its projecting walls and its portico, and it had the same measurements as the first gate: fifty cubits long and twenty-five cubits wide" (Ezekiel 40:20, NIV). "The galleries and their entrances were on the north side; and from the outer court one could enter them, though they were narrower, for the galleries took away space from them" (Ezekiel 42:5, ESV). "The temple of the LORD was filled with a cloud, and the priests could not perform their service because of the cloud, for the glory of the LORD filled the temple" (1 Kings 8:10, NIV).

Application

Consider how the detailed design of worship spaces reminds us that God deserves our careful attention and reverence in how we approach Him.
