Overview
Gaddiel son of Sodi was chosen as one of twelve tribal representatives to survey the land of Canaan before Israel's conquest (Numbers 13:10-11). Along with the other spies, he spent forty days exploring the land and returned with a report of its fertility and resources. However, ten of the twelve spies, including Gaddiel, gave a faithless report that discouraged the people from entering the Promised Land.
Key Scriptures
"These were the names of the men whom Moses sent to spy out the land. And Moses called Hoshea the son of Nun Joshua" (Numbers 13:16, ESV). "And they came to Moses and Aaron and to all the congregation of the people of Israel in the wilderness of Paran, at Kadesh; and brought back word to them and to all the congregation, and showed them the fruit of the land" (Numbers 13:26, ESV). "But the men who had gone up with him said, 'We are not able to go up against the people, for they are stronger than we are'" (Numbers 13:31, ESV).
Application
When facing challenges, choose faith in God's promises rather than fear-based reasoning like Gaddiel and the unfaithful spies demonstrated.
