Overview

Pentecost originated as a Jewish harvest festival held fifty days after Passover, featuring special offerings and celebrations (Numbers 28:27-31). In Acts 2, Jesus's promise of the Holy Spirit was fulfilled when the disciples gathered in Jerusalem, resulting in the dramatic outpouring of God's Spirit that gave birth to the church and empowered believers for gospel witness.

Key Scriptures

"When the day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting" (Acts 2:1-2, NKJV). "And there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them" (Acts 2:3, NKJV). "You shall bring out of your dwellings two wave loaves of two tenths of an ephah. They shall be of fine flour, baked with leaven, as firstfruits to the Lord" (Leviticus 23:17, ESV).

Application

Pentecost demonstrates God's faithfulness to fulfill His promises and reminds believers that the same Holy Spirit empowers us today for bold witness and transformed living.
