Fair Havens

0 scripture references — Nave's Topical Bible

Overview

Fair Havens was a port on the southern coast of Crete where Paul and his companions found temporary refuge during their journey to Rome (Acts 27:8). Paul warned the centurion and ship's owner that continuing their voyage would be dangerous due to approaching winter storms, but they ignored his counsel and set sail anyway, resulting in a severe tempest that nearly destroyed the ship.

Key Scriptures

"Now when much time had been spent and the voyage was now dangerous because even the Fast was already over, Paul began to admonish them, saying, 'Sirs, I perceive that the voyage will be with injury and much loss, not only of the cargo and the ship, but also of our lives.'" (Acts 27:9-10, NASB)

"And when the ship was caught in it and could not face the wind, we gave way to it and were driven along" (Acts 27:15, ESV)

Application

Christians should heed wise counsel from mature believers, especially regarding decisions that carry spiritual or practical risk.
