Esar-Haddon

0 scripture references — Nave's Topical Bible

Overview

Esarhaddon ruled the Assyrian Empire during a significant period affecting Judah. Second Chronicles 33:11 records that Manasseh, king of Judah, was captured by Assyrian commanders under Esarhaddon and taken to Babylon. Despite Judah's unfaithfulness, God responded to Manasseh's repentance in captivity by restoring him to his throne, demonstrating divine mercy and the power of genuine repentance.

Key Scriptures

"The Lord spoke to Manasseh and his people, but they paid no attention. Therefore the Lord brought against them the army commanders of the king of Assyria, who took Manasseh prisoner, put a hook in his nose, bound him with bronze shackles and took him to Babylon" (2 Chronicles 33:10-11, NIV).

"In his distress he sought the favor of the Lord his God and humbled himself greatly before the God of his ancestors. And when he prayed to him, the Lord was moved by his entreaty and listened to his plea; so he brought him back to Jerusalem and to his kingdom" (2 Chronicles 33:12-13, NIV).

Application

Recognize that God disciplines His people for unfaithfulness but always offers restoration through genuine repentance, regardless of circumstances.
