0 scripture references — Nave's Topical Bible

Overview

The Old Testament prophesied that Elijah would return before the great day of the Lord. Jesus identified John the Baptist as fulfilling this role, operating in the same spirit and power as the ancient prophet Elijah, preparing hearts for Christ's coming.

Key Scriptures

"Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the great and awesome day of the Lord comes" (Malachi 4:5, ESV).

"And Jesus answered them, 'Elijah does come, and he will restore all things. But I tell you that Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him, but did to him whatever they pleased'" (Matthew 17:11-12, ESV).

"And he will go on before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the parents to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous" (Luke 1:17, NIV).

Application

Recognize that God's prophetic promises are fulfilled through Christ and His messengers, calling us to prepare our hearts to receive Jesus as Savior and Lord.
