Overview
After the Philistines captured the Ark of the Covenant at Ebenezer, they transported it to Ashdod and then to Gath. When God afflicted these cities with tumors and plague, the Philistines moved the Ark to Ekron as a last resort. However, the people of Ekron cried out in distress, recognizing God's judgment, and the Philistines were forced to return the Ark to Israel on a new cart pulled by two milk cows, acknowledging God's supremacy over their false gods.
Key Scriptures

"Now the Philistines took the ark of the Lord and brought it from Ebenezer to Ashdod; then the Philistines took the ark of the Lord and brought it into the house of Dagon" (1 Samuel 5:1-2, NASB)
