God's Heart for All Nations

The Bible reveals that God's redemptive plan extends to every people group on earth, including the Chinese. In Matthew 28:19-20, Jesus gave His final command to His disciples: "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit." The Greek word "ethn?" (nations) encompasses all ethnic groups, peoples, and cultures—a vision that certainly includes the Chinese people, whether in mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, or Chinese diaspora communities around the world.

The Apostle John caught a glimpse of this glorious reality when he wrote in Revelation 7:9, "After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands." This vision reminds us that God's kingdom will include redeemed souls from every ethnic background, including Chinese believers who have come to faith in Christ.

Acts 17:26-27 emphasizes that God "made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place, that they should seek God, and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him." This passage assures us that God has intentionally placed Chinese people in their regions and times so they might seek and find Him through the Gospel.

The Great Commission and Chinese Communities

Canadian Christians have a unique responsibility toward Chinese communities, both in Canada and globally. Many Chinese immigrants and international students live in Canadian cities, presenting opportunities for gospel witness and church fellowship. The Great Commission is not merely a distant missionary call; it includes our neighbors and classmates from China and Chinese heritage communities in our own cities.

In 1 Peter 3:15, we're instructed to "always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have." When we encounter Chinese friends, colleagues, or neighbors, we should be ready to share our faith authentically and respectfully, recognizing that many may come from non-Christian backgrounds where access to the Gospel has been limited. Cultural sensitivity and genuine relationship-building are essential as we seek to share Christ's love across cultural boundaries.

Application for Today

If you have Chinese friends or colleagues, consider this an invitation from God to pray for them and look for natural opportunities to share the Gospel. Support missionary organizations working among Chinese people both domestically and internationally. Learn about the spiritual needs and opportunities within Chinese communities. Invite Chinese neighbors to church events or Bible studies. Remember that Chinese believers are part of the global body of Christ, and many faithful disciples of Jesus are serving Him throughout the Chinese-speaking world.

"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age." — Matthew 28:19-20 (ESV)
