Zephon

Zephon was a son of Gad and founder of the Zephonite clan in ancient Israel. He is mentioned in the genealogical records of Numbers as part of the tribal census.

Overview

Zephon was one of the sons of Gad, the seventh son of Jacob and Leah. During the wilderness census recorded in Numbers 26, Zephon's descendants formed the Zephonite clan, representing one of the tribal divisions within the tribe of Gad who would inherit land east of the Jordan River.

Key Scriptures

"The sons of Gad: Zephon, Haggi, Shuni, Ozni, Eri, Arod, and Areli." (Numbers 26:15, ESV)

"The descendants of Gad by their clans: of Zephon, the clan of the Zephonites..." (Numbers 26:15, NASB)

Application

Though Zephon appears only briefly in Scripture, his inclusion in the genealogical record reminds us that God knows and honors every generation of His people, and that faithful family lines are significant in His redemptive plan.
