Shimrith

Shimrith was a Moabite woman whose son Jehozabad was involved in the assassination of King Joash of Judah. This event demonstrates the consequences of turning from God's ways.

Overview

Shimrith was a Moabite woman and the mother of Jehozabad, one of the servants who conspired against King Joash of Judah. After King Joash turned away from the Lord and had the prophet Zechariah killed, judgment came through his own officials. Shimrith's son was among those who struck down the king, illustrating how God uses various means to bring consequences for unfaithfulness.

Key Scriptures

"Jozacar the son of Shimeath and Jehozabad the son of Shomer, his servants, struck him down. So he died" (2 Kings 12:21, ESV).

"After the death of Jehoiada, the officials of Judah came and paid homage to the king. Then the king listened to them. And they abandoned the house of the Lord, the God of their fathers, and served the Asherim and the idols. And wrath came upon Judah and Jerusalem for this guilt of theirs" (2 Chronicles 24:17-18, ESV).

Application

Turning from God's Word and rejecting His messengers invites divine judgment, reminding us to remain faithful to Scripture and responsive to God's correction.
