Shemida

Shemida was a son of Gilead and grandson of Manasseh, whose descendants formed one of the major family groups within the tribe of Manasseh during the conquest of Canaan.

Overview

Shemida was a son of Gilead (Numbers 26:32) and part of the lineage of Manasseh. His family line became significant enough to be counted as one of the principal divisions of Manasseh when the Israelites inherited the land of Canaan. The Shemidaites represented one of the major clans within this half-tribe.

Key Scriptures

"The sons of Gilead: Jeezer, Helek, Asriel, Shechem, Shemida, and Hepher" (Numbers 26:32, ESV).

"So the rest of Manasseh's descendants by their clans received their inheritance" (Joshua 17:2, NIV).

"The sons of Gilead: Jeezer, Helek, Asriel, Shechem, Shemida and Hepher" (1 Chronicles 7:19, ESV).

Application

Understanding tribal genealogies like Shemida's reminds us that God keeps precise records of His people and fulfills His promises to specific families and communities across generations.
