Ophni

Ophni was a town in the territory of Benjamin, mentioned in Joshua's account of the Israelite land division. It served as one of the cities assigned to the Benjamite tribe.

Overview

Ophni was a city located within the tribal territory of Benjamin during the time of Joshua's conquest and distribution of Canaan. Though only briefly mentioned in Scripture, it represents one of many towns assigned to Benjamin as part of God's covenant promise to Israel. The town's inclusion in the biblical record affirms the historical detail and geographical specificity of the land division.

Key Scriptures

"And the cities of the tribe of the children of Benjamin according to their families were Jericho, and Beth-hoglah, and the valley of Keziz, and Beth-arabah, and Zemaraim, and Bethel, and Avim, and Parah, and Ophrah, and Chephar-ammoni, and Ophni, and Gaba; twelve cities and their villages" (Joshua 18:21-24, ASV).

Application

Reflect on how God's meticulous care in dividing the promised land according to each tribe demonstrates His faithfulness to His covenant promises and His desire for order and justice in providing for His people.
