Obed-Edom

Obed-Edom was a Levite gatekeeper in David's time who is remembered for his faithful service in the temple worship. He represents the importance of humble, consistent service in God's house.

Overview

Obed-Edom served as one of the gatekeepers of the ark of the covenant during King David's reign. He was a Levite appointed to guard the entrance to God's dwelling place and to lead worship with musical instruments and cymbals. His faithful service demonstrates the vital role of those who work behind the scenes in God's kingdom.

Key Scriptures

"Obed-Edom also, and Hosah, were to be gatekeepers. And Shecaniah the priest helped them" (1 Chronicles 16:38, ESV).

"And they took all the gold and silver, and all the vessels that were found in the house of God with Obed-Edom, and the treasures of the king's house, and hostages, and returned to Samaria" (2 Chronicles 25:24, ESV).

Application

Like Obed-Edom, believers are called to faithful stewardship in whatever service the Lord assigns, knowing that humble work done for God's glory is never insignificant.
