Nimrod

Nimrod was a mighty hunter and early ruler whose kingdom included Babel, representing human ambition apart from God. He exemplifies the danger of seeking power and glory independent of the Lord.

Overview

Nimrod was a descendant of Ham and one of the first powerful rulers in human history after the flood. His name became synonymous with tyranny and human pride directed against God's purposes. He established the first major kingdoms and is mentioned in connection with Babel, where humanity attempted to build a tower reaching heaven.

Key Scriptures

"Cush fathered Nimrod; he was the first on earth to be a mighty man. He was a mighty hunter before the Lord" (Genesis 10:8-9, ESV).

"Cush became the father of Nimrod; he became a mighty one on the earth" (1 Chronicles 1:10, NASB).

Application

Nimrod's legacy warns believers to guard against pursuing power, dominion, and recognition at the expense of obedience to God, remembering that true strength comes from submission to His authority, not human achievement.
