Nebaioth

Nebaioth was the firstborn son of Ishmael and became a significant Arabian tribal leader whose descendants are mentioned in biblical prophecy.

Overview

Nebaioth was Ishmael's eldest son, born to Abraham's concubine Hagar. He founded a prominent Arabian tribe that maintained contact with the biblical patriarchs through marriage alliances. His descendants became known traders and herders across the Arabian Peninsula.

Key Scriptures

"These are the sons of Ishmael and these are their names, by their villages and by their settlements; Nebaioth and Kedar and Adbeel and Mibsam" (Genesis 25:13, ESV).

"And Esau took Mahalath the daughter of Ishmael, Abraham's son, the sister of Nebaioth, to be his wife" (Genesis 28:9, NASB).

"The abundance of the seas will be brought to you, the wealth of the nations will come to you. Herds of camels will cover your land, dromedaries of Midian and Ephah; all those from Sheba will come. They will bring gold and frankincense, and will proclaim the praises of the Lord" (Isaiah 60:5, 6, NIV)—referencing Nebaioth's descendants.

Application
