Overview
Michmash was a town in the territory of Benjamin, located northeast of Jerusalem. It became notable during King Saul's conflict with the Philistines, when Jonathan led a daring attack against their garrison. The town continued to be inhabited by Benjamites after the Babylonian exile.
Key Scriptures
"The Philistines mustered to fight against Israel, thirty thousand chariots and six thousand horsemen and troops like the sand on the seashore in multitude" (1 Samuel 13:5, ESV).
"Saul numbered the people who were present with him, about six hundred men" (1 Samuel 13:2, ESV).
"So Jonathan climbed up on his hands and feet, and his armor-bearer after him. And they fell before Jonathan, and his armor-bearer killed them after Jonathan" (1 Samuel 14:13, ESV).
Application
Michmash reminds us that God uses courage and faith, even in seemingly impossible military odds, to accomplish His purposes for His people.
