Mibzar

Mibzar was a chief of Edom descended from Esau, listed among the leaders of the Edomite clans.

Overview

Mibzar was an Edomite chief whose name appears in the genealogical records of Esau's descendants. As one of the chiefs of Edom, he represents the established leadership structure among the Edomite people during the patriarchal period. The Edomites, descended from Esau, became a significant neighboring nation to Israel.

Key Scriptures

"These were the chiefs of Edom, according to their dwelling places, in the land of their possession: Timna, Alvah, Jetheth, Oholibamah, Elah, Pinon, Kenaz, Teman, Mibzar, Magdiel, and Iram. These are the chiefs of Edom." (Genesis 36:40-43, ESV)

"And Mibzar, Magdiel, and Iram. These are the chiefs of Edom." (1 Chronicles 1:53, NASB)

Application

Though Mibzar is mentioned only briefly in Scripture, his inclusion in the biblical genealogy reminds us that God's Word records both chosen and non-chosen nations, acknowledging His sovereign knowledge of all peoples and their leaders.
