Overview
Mered was a descendant of Judah mentioned in the genealogical records of 1 Chronicles. He is notable for marrying Bithiah, an Egyptian woman and daughter of Pharaoh, as well as Hodiah, an Israelite woman. Through these marriages, Mered fathered several children whose names and descendants are recorded in Scripture.
Key Scriptures
"And Mered took a wife, and he called her name Miriam. And the name of his second wife was Hodiah; and he was the father of Esti Moab, Sammai, and Ishbah the father of Eshtemoa" (1 Chronicles 4:17, ESV).
"And his wife Jehudijah bore Jered the father of Gedor, Heber the father of Soco, and Jekuthiel the father of Zanoah. These were the children of Bithiah, the daughter of Pharaoh, whom Mered took" (1 Chronicles 4:18, ESV).
