Mattenai

Mattenai was the name of at least two men in post-exilic Israel who were associated with priestly duties and the restoration community.

Overview

Mattenai appears in the records of Ezra and Nehemiah as individuals involved in the post-exilic Jewish community. These men were among those who returned from Babylonian captivity and participated in the restoration of temple worship and community life in Jerusalem.

Key Scriptures

"Mattenai, Mattattah, Zabad, Eliphelet, Jeremai, Manasseh, and Shimei." (Ezra 10:33, ESV)

"Mattenai, Jedidiah, and Uzziel." (Ezra 10:37, ESV)

"And of the Levites, Shemaiah; and of the priests, Jehozarah, Mattenai, Miniamin, Micaiah, Elioenai." (Nehemiah 12:19, ESV)

Application

Like Mattenai and his contemporaries, believers today are called to actively participate in the restoration and spiritual life of God's community, the church.
