Mahalath

Mahalath was the wife of Rehoboam and mother of Abijah, connecting the royal lines of Judah through marriage to Absalom's line. Her significance lies in the genealogical continuity of David's dynasty during the divided kingdom period.

Overview

Mahalath (also called Michaiah in some accounts) was a daughter of Jerimoth and granddaughter of King David through Absalom. She married Rehoboam, king of Judah, and bore him Abijah, who became the second king of Judah after the kingdom split. Her life illustrates God's faithfulness in preserving David's royal line despite political upheaval.

Key Scriptures

"And Rehoboam took him Mahalath the daughter of Jerimoth the son of David to wife" (2 Chronicles 11:18, KJV). "And Abijah his son reigned in his stead" (1 Kings 14:31, ESV). "The Lord will establish his kingdom forever" (2 Samuel 7:16, NASB).

Application

Mahalath's role reminds believers that God works through ordinary family relationships to accomplish His covenant promises across generations.
