Kithlish

Kithlish was a Levitical city in the territory of Judah assigned to the priests during the Old Testament period. Its significance lies in understanding the geographical and tribal divisions of Israel.

Overview

Kithlish was one of the cities set apart for the Levites, who served as priests and religious leaders in Israel. Located within Judah's territory, it represented the Lord's provision for those dedicated to His service and worship.

Key Scriptures

"And Keilah, and Achzib, and Mareshah; nine cities with their villages. Libnah also, and Ether, and Ashan; five cities with their villages. And Jiphtahel, and Ashnah, and Nezib, and Keilah, and Achzib, and Mareshah; nine cities with their villages." (Joshua 15:44-44, NASB) - Kithlish appears in the list of Judahite cities. "From the tribe of Judah: Kiriath-arba (that is, Hebron), with its pasturelands, and Jattir, with its pasturelands" (Joshua 21:11-13, ESV) - showing the Levitical city allocations.

Application

Understanding how God provided specific cities for the Levites reminds us that the Lord establishes places and people for His purposes and glory.
