Jambres

Jambres was an Egyptian magician who opposed Moses during the plagues, representing spiritual resistance to God's truth that continues throughout history.

Overview

Jambres is mentioned alongside Jannes as one of the Egyptian magicians who opposed Moses and resisted God's miraculous signs during the plagues (Exodus 7-8). Though not named in Exodus, Paul identifies him by name when warning about false teachers who oppose the truth. Like Jannes and Jambres, such deceivers are exposed as spiritually bankrupt despite their outward influence.

Key Scriptures

"Now just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so these people also oppose the truth. They are depraved in mind and disqualified regarding the faith" (2 Timothy 3:8, ESV).

"Then Pharaoh also called the wise men and the sorcerers; and they also, the magicians of Egypt, did the same with their secret arts" (Exodus 7:11, NASB).

Application

Recognize that spiritual opposition to God's truth is not new; maintain confidence that God's Word ultimately prevails over all false teaching and human resistance.
