Issue of Blood

The issue of blood (continuous bleeding) in biblical times rendered a woman ceremonially unclean and separated her from community and worship until healed. Jesus demonstrated His power and compassion by healing this condition and restoring the woman's dignity and faith.

Overview

In Levitical law, a woman with a prolonged discharge of blood was considered ceremonially unclean and isolated from society and temple worship. This condition caused both physical suffering and social shame. Jesus' healing of the woman with the issue of blood revealed His authority over disease and His radical compassion for the marginalized.

Key Scriptures

"And a woman who had a discharge of blood for twelve years came up behind him and touched the fringe of his garment, for she said to herself, 'If I only touch his garment, I will be made well.'" (Matthew 9:20-21, ESV)

"And Jesus said, 'Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace, and be healed of your disease.'" (Mark 5:34, ESV)

"If a woman has a discharge of blood for many days, not at the time of her impurity, or if she has a discharge beyond the time of her impurity, all the days of the discharge she shall continue in uncleanness." (Leviticus 15:25, ESV)

Application

Trust that Jesus offers complete healing and restoration, not merely physical cure but also relational wholeness and peace with God.
