Interpreter

An interpreter is someone called by God to explain or translate divine revelation, whether spiritual gifts in the church or God's mysterious purposes. The role requires wisdom, humility, and dependence on the Holy Spirit.

Overview

Scripture presents interpreters in two primary contexts: those who explain spiritual languages in corporate worship (1 Corinthians 14), and those who reveal God's hidden purposes and meanings (Daniel 2). Both roles require divine enablement and serve to edify believers and glorify God.

Key Scriptures

"If any speak in a tongue, let there be only two or at most three, and each in turn, and let someone interpret" (1 Corinthians 14:27, ESV).

"But as for me, this secret has not been revealed to me because of any wisdom that I have more than any other living person, but in order that the interpretation may be made known to the king" (Daniel 2:30, NASB).

"Daniel answered before the king and said, 'The secret which the king has demanded, the wise men, the conjurers, the magicians and the soothsayers are not able to declare to the king. However, there is a God in heaven who reveals secrets, and He has made known to King Nebuchadnezzar what will take place in the latter days'" (Daniel 2:27-28, NASB).

Application

Seek to understand Scripture through careful study and prayer, recognizing that ultimate interpretation comes from the Holy Spirit's illumination of God's Word.
