Golden Rule

The Golden Rule—treating others as you would want to be treated—is the heart of Christian ethics and summarizes God's law and the prophets.

Overview

The Golden Rule calls believers to love their neighbors by treating them with the same kindness, respect, and justice they desire for themselves. This principle reflects God's character and forms the foundation of biblical morality, transcending mere rule-following to embody Christ-centered compassion.

Key Scriptures

"Six days you shall work, but on the seventh day you shall rest" (Deuteronomy 5:14, ESV). "Remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and the LORD your God brought you out from there with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm; therefore the LORD your God commanded you to keep the Sabbath day" (Deuteronomy 5:15, ESV). Jesus taught: "So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets" (Matthew 7:12, ESV).

Application

Examine your daily interactions—in work, family, and community—and ask whether you're extending to others the dignity, patience, and generosity you would hope to receive.
