Expediency

Expediency refers to the principle that not everything permissible is beneficial or appropriate in all circumstances, particularly regarding how our personal freedoms affect others' spiritual growth.

Overview

The doctrine of expediency teaches that Christian liberty must be exercised with consideration for weaker believers. While certain actions may be lawful, they are not always advantageous or edifying for the body of Christ. This principle balances personal freedom with community responsibility.

Key Scriptures

"I know and am convinced by the Lord Jesus that nothing is unclean of itself; but to him who considers anything to be unclean, to him it is unclean" (Romans 14:14, NKJV). "Yet if your brother is grieved because of your food, you are no longer walking in love. Do not destroy with your food the one for whom Christ died" (Romans 14:15, NKJV). "All things are lawful for me, but not all things are helpful; all things are lawful for me, but not all things edify" (1 Corinthians 10:23, NKJV).

Application

Evaluate your personal choices against whether they strengthen or weaken the faith of fellow believers, prioritizing love and unity over asserting your rights.
