Overview
Eshtaol was a city allocated to the tribe of Dan in the Shephelah region of Canaan. The town appears prominently in the account of Samson, whose parents resided there. It also served as a staging point for the Danites' migration northward in search of additional territory.

"The territory of the Danites included Zorah, Eshtaol, Ir-shemesh, Shaalabbin, Aijalon, Ithlah" (Joshua 19:41, ESV).
"Then the five men departed and came to Laish and saw the people who were there, how they dwelt in security, after the manner of the Sidonians, quiet and unsuspecting" (Judges 18:7, NASB) - describing the Danites' journey from Eshtaol.
"The family of the Danites, of the clan of the Danites, numbered 600 men armed with weapons of war. From there they set out from Zorah and Eshtaol" (Judges 18:11, NIV).
