WORD (Logos), THE, is one of the titles of Jesus Christ. Just as we express ourselves by words, so God expresses his mind to the world, his boundless love, his inflexible justice, through Christ, his Word. The term occurs only in the writings of John. John 1:1-14; 1 John 1:1; Rev 19:13. It has been made a question whether John borrowed the term from Philo, who also uses it, or whether he used it independently. But they do not mean the same thing. The "Word" of Philo was an abstraction; the "Word" of John was the Son of God.
