Hastings' Dictionary of the Bible (1898)

KITE, Lev 11:14, a rapacious Kite. (Milvus regalis. ) bird (Milvus regalis) of the hawk family, mentioned as unclean by the ceremonial law. The common kite breeds in Northern Palestine, and in winter is common in other districts. There is reference to this bird in Job 28:7, under the rendering Vulture, which see. The kite is said to have a vision remarkably keen, even for a bird of prey.
