V. , 1 Cor 12:28. The "helps" are a gift of the Spirit. This gift doubtless comprehends the various duties of the deacons and deaconesses of the apostolic Church, especially the care of the poor and the sick. It is found also among the laity, especially the female portion, in all ages and all branches of Christendom.
