Easton's Bible Dictionary (1897)

Mountainous land, a province of Assyria (1 Chr. 5:26), between the Tigris and the Euphrates, along the banks of the Khabur, to which some of the Israelite captives were carried. It has not been identified. Some think the word a variation of Haran.

Smith's Bible Dictionary (1863)

(mountain land), (1 Chronicles 5:26) only, is either a place utterly unknown or it must be regarded as identical with Haran or Charran.

Hastings' Dictionary of the Bible (1898) & Schaff's Bible Dictionary

HA'RA (mountain-land), a place, evidently in western Assyria, to which the Israelites east of the Jordan were carried captive, 1 Chr 5:26. It is generally regarded as a variation of Haran. From the connection in which it is named, it must have been on or near the Khabour River.

Hitchcock's Bible Names (1869)

a hill; showing forth
