E'SAR-HAD'DON, son and successor of Sennacherib, king of Assyria, and one of the greatest of her kings. 2 Kgs 19:37. He is the only Assyrian monarch who actually ruled in Babylon. He was the builder of magnificent structures, including 3 palaces and 30 temples. c. 680 to 667, and during it Manasseh, the king of Judah, was taken prisoner by his captains and carried before him at Babylon, and kept a captive for some time. 2 Chr 33:11.
