E'NON, OR AE'NON (springs), a place near Salim where John was baptizing. John 3:23. Three sites have been proposed for it: 1. The traditional one, by Jerome, about 8 miles south of Beisan; not confirmed by later authorities. 2. In Wady Farah,5 miles north-east of Jerusalem; suggested by Dr. Barclay. 3. The more probable site, pointed out by Robinson, Stanley, and Conder. This is east of Nublus, near the village Salim, and north of the latter, in Wady Fara (but not the same valley as in No.
2), where there are copious springs; and 3 or 4 miles north of the springs is a village called 'Ainun or AEnon. The site may therefore be regarded as settled with some degree of certainty.
