" Baali is used in a twofold sense: first, My Baal, the name of the principal god of the Canaanites; and second, My lord, a usual name for husband. The idea of the verse is that so wholly devoted to Jehovah shall Israel be that she will not apply to him even a word which suggests the former idolatry.
