A city on the boundary of Ephraim and Benjamin (Josh. 16:2), between Bethel and Beth-horon the nether.

Smith's Bible Dictionary (1863)

(Joshua 16:2) A place in the neighborhood of Bethel, on the boundary between Ephraim and Benjamin. It designates a clan perhaps originally from Erech in Babylonia, of which Hushai was one.

Hastings' Dictionary of the Bible (1898) & Schaff's Bible Dictionary

AR'CHI. Josh 16:2. A place near Bethel, perhaps settled by a colony from Babylon, and named after Erech in Babylonia. Conder identifies it with the village of 'Ain 'Arek, which is in the required position.
