Azekah was a fortified city in the Shephelah (lowlands) of Judah, near Lachish. It appears as a location in Joshua's conquest and later in the battles between Judah and Philistines. In a metaphorical personification, the town "cries out" alongside Lachish in Micah's prophecy of judgment. It also appears in the Lachish letters (archaeological finds) as one of the last Judahite cities standing before the Babylonian destruction of Jerusalem.
