Ahimoth appears in the sacred genealogies as a descendant of Kohath, one of the three sons of Levi. According to 1 Chronicles 6:25, Ahimoth was part of the distinguished lineage that served in the temple worship system established by God through Moses. The Kohathites held a particularly sacred responsibility among the Levites, as they were entrusted with caring for the most holy objects of the tabernacle, including the ark of the covenant, the table of showbread, and the golden altar.
