Overview
Sotai was among the Nethinim (temple servants) who returned from the Babylonian captivity under Zerubbabel's leadership around 538 BC. These servants were dedicated to assisting the Levites and priests in temple duties. Though little is known about Sotai individually, his name appears in the registry of those who participated in the restoration of God's house and the re-establishment of proper worship in Jerusalem.
Key Scriptures
"The following came up from Tel Melah, Tel Harsha, Cherub, Addon and Immer, but they could not show that their families were descended from Israel: The descendants of Delaiah, Tobiah and Nekoda, 652. And of the priests: The descendants of Hobaiah, Hakkoz and Barzillai (a man who had married a daughter of Barzillai the Gileadite and was called by that name). The descendants of Sotai, Hassophereth, Peruda, Jaala, Darkon, Giddel, Shephatiah, Hattil, Pokereth-Hazzebaim and Ami—the temple servants numbered 392." (Ezra 2:59-60, NIV)
Application
Sotai's faithful service reminds us that God values and remembers every believer's contribution to His kingdom, regardless of prominence or recognition.
