Overview
The Valley of Sorek was situated in the territory between Israel and the Philistines in ancient Canaan. It was here that Samson became entangled with Delilah, a Philistine woman, which ultimately led to his capture and loss of strength. The valley's strategic location made it a natural border area of conflict.
Key Scriptures
"After this he loved a woman in the Valley of Sorek, whose name was Delilah" (Judges 16:4, ESV).
"When Delilah saw that he had told her all his heart, she sent and called the lords of the Philistines, saying, 'Come up once more, for he has told me all his heart.' Then the lords of the Philistines came up to her and brought the money in their hands" (Judges 16:18, ESV).
Application
The Valley of Sorek reminds believers to guard their hearts against relationships and compromises that draw them away from God's purpose and strength.
