Shiloah

Shiloah (also Siloam) was a spring near Jerusalem that provided water to the city and served as a symbol of God's gentle provision. Isaiah used it metaphorically to represent the comfort of God's presence contrasted with human reliance on foreign powers.

Overview

Shiloah was a natural spring located in Jerusalem that supplied water to the city's inhabitants. The prophet Isaiah referenced this spring to illustrate spiritual truths about God's provision and the consequences of rejecting His gentle care in favor of worldly power and alliances.

Key Scriptures

"Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: the virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel. He will be eating curds and honey when he knows enough to reject the wrong and choose the right. But before the boy knows enough to reject the wrong and choose the right, the land of the two kings you dread will be laid waste." (Isaiah 7:14-16, NIV)

"Therefore the Lord is about to bring against them the mighty floodwaters of the River—the king of Assyria with all his pomp. It will overflow all its channels, run over all its banks and sweep on into Judah, swirling over it, passing through it and reaching up to the neck." (Isaiah 8:7-8, NIV)

Application

Trust in God's gentle provision rather than seeking security through worldly alliances and human strength.
