Shaaph

Shaaph was a son of Caleb mentioned in the genealogies of 1 Chronicles. He appears in the lineage of Judah as a descendant of Caleb and his concubine Maacah.

Overview

Shaaph is a minor figure in the genealogical records of Israel, appearing only in the chronicles of Judah's lineage. He was the son of Caleb and Maacah, Caleb's concubine, and represents one of the many descendants through whom God's covenant promises were transmitted across generations.

Key Scriptures

"The sons of Caleb the brother of Jerahmeel were Mesha his firstborn, who was the father of Ziph, and the sons of Mareshah the father of Hebron" (1 Chronicles 2:42, ESV). "And the sons of Madmannah, Shaaph. And the father of Madmannah, Shaaph; and the father of Macbenah and the father of Gibea" (1 Chronicles 2:49, ESV).

Application

Though Shaaph is mentioned only briefly in Scripture, his inclusion in God's Word reminds us that all believers, regardless of prominence or obscurity, are part of God's redemptive history and have value in His sight.
