Zeresh

Zeresh was the wife of Haman, the enemy of the Jewish people in Persia. She played a significant role in encouraging her husband's pride and vengeful schemes against Mordecai and the Jews.

Overview

Zeresh appears in the book of Esther as Haman's wife who actively participated in his plans for advancement and revenge. She exemplifies how ungodly counsel and pride can lead to a person's downfall. Her influence on Haman demonstrates the power spouses have in shaping one another's character and decisions.

Key Scriptures

"Then Haman told them about the splendor of his riches and the number of his sons, and all the ways the king had honored him and how he had elevated him above the other nobles and officials. 'And that's not all,' Haman added. 'I'm the only one Queen Esther invited to accompany the king to the banquet she gave.'" (Esther 5:11-12, NIV)

"His wife Zeresh and all his friends said to him, 'Have a pole set up, reaching to a height of fifty cubits, and ask the king in the morning to have Mordecai hanged on it.'" (Esther 7:9, NIV)

Application

Believers should seek counsel from those who fear God rather than from those who encourage pride and vengeance, as worldly advice often leads to spiritual and practical ruin.
