Proxy

A proxy is someone acting on behalf of another person, representing their interests or performing their duties. Biblical examples show how one person can stand in for another in religious or practical matters.

Overview

Throughout Scripture, God sometimes appointed individuals to act as representatives or substitutes for others. This principle of proxy authority appears in both ceremonial and civil contexts, where one person's actions could affect or represent a larger group or individual.

Key Scriptures

"For many of the people, many from Ephraim, Manasseh, Issachar, and Zebulun, had not cleansed themselves, yet they ate the Passover otherwise than it is written. But Hezekiah prayed for them, saying, 'May the good LORD pardon everyone who sets his heart to seek God, the LORD, the God of his fathers, even though not according to the sanctuary's rules of cleanness.'" (2 Chronicles 30:18-19, ESV)

"Therefore as one trespass led to condemnation for all men, so one act of righteousness leads to justification and life for all men." (Romans 5:18, ESV)

Application

Recognize that Jesus Christ is our ultimate proxy before God, representing believers and securing our redemption through His sacrifice.
